Microsoft Looks to Speed Up Vista
September 13, 2005, 2:02 PM
Saying "we want to optimize your system so you don't have to," Jim Allchin demoed an application dubbed "Superfetch." This new technology examines your past history to see which applications are used most and continuously tweaks them in memory to keep a system running as fast as possible. Superfetch also pre-loads applications upon reboot, so they launch almost immediately.

Haven't we been trying for years to not have application launch "helpers" clutter our tray? Now spyware won't have to worry; it will be moved to the front by Vista. How novel.

Don't install spyware. Keep your systems clean. Run a virus checker and an anti-spyware program... I don't see the value of your argument here. It's cool technology and will improve the end-user experience. Microsoft can't control what the person using the computer installs... They try and are improvind Vista to help users decide whether they should run potentially dangerous code, but if someone ignores a non-trusted certificate, or installs a non-WHQL driver, or install's questionable apps... well, you're creating your own problems.
